P2Pool for Memorycoin

YAM Mining Software: <offline>
Pool Scanner (WIP)
http://mmcexplorer.info/p2pool
I got to admit, this project has been quite tedious for the last couple weeks, but I have finally reached the point where it works post-beta quality.

Benifits:
* Highly efficient mining protocol
* Completely decentralized solution, no more mining centralization issues
* Instant payouts - included in coinbase transaction so you dont have to ever worry about not getting payed.

No other pool compares!

Python Twisted is the only dependancy.

How to use (obviously be aware of changes needed for your configuration):
Code: [Select][/b][/font]
Code: [Select]
git clone https://github.com/KillerByte/p2pool
cd p2pool
git submodule sync
git submodule update --init
cd memorycoin_momentum
sudo python setup.py install
cd ..
python run_p2pool.py

Let me know of any troubles.

How to mine:

1. Download the YAM Mining software for your processor (M7p): https://mega.co.nz/#F!h0tkXSxZ!f62uoUXogkxQmP2xO8Ib-g

Code: [Select][/b][/font]
Code: [Select]
./yam -M stratum+tcp://<your address>@<preferred pool node>:8080/mmc -M stratum+tcp://<your address>@<backup pool node>:8080/mmc
What works:

* Stratum Mining Protocol
* Mining a block
* Pool Node Communication & Sync

What needs to be improved:

* P2Pool Node Scanner
* Generic Pool Interface

Great, because we have updates today.

I just tested a fully working version of YAM with P2Pool, which means that this pool is ready for action!

There has been an update to the protocol which requires a pull from all pool operators immediately! Please do so ASAP, otherwise you wont be able to participate with the rest of the network.

I just made another important update to the pool. Please update to version 13.4-48 ASAP.

This fixes the share difficulty bug, which was causing some major problems with share efficiency.

I understand this as a "green light" message for yam M7p maintenance release, so I will push it out nearest hours. ETA is 12 to 24 hours.

Ah, yes - now I see e-mail as well - looks like I group-marked it as "read" with some other e-mails.

Btw, M7p is available now in regular locations. Some extra imporvements added, for ex. SOCKS5 proxy support.

P2Pool has been updated. Please pull.

Make sure you rebuild the Momentum module:

Code: [Select]
cd memorycoin_momentum
python2 setup.py build
sudo python2 setup.py install

This release makes the following fixes:

* 90% chance fixed crash, but please keep reporting
* Increased P2Pool network security with the momentum module

it should. Make sure http://yourpool.com:8080/local_stats shows actual statistics, you are up to date, and you have connections.

Can you paste the rest of your logs?
Also which YAM/MMC miner are you using?
What is your ping to the pool server?

OK... another update has been released. This release increases the PPLNS share chain length, and the website is greatly improved! See http://xpool.xram.co:8080/

To upgrade, run these commands:

Code: [Select]
git pull
git submodule --init

As always, let me know of any problems.

that exception should have dissipated by now.

The update is out to fix the miner hash rate listings. Please update when you can. Failure to update may result in your pool not being listed on MMCExplorer.

Yes, your pool is looking much better now.

Sorry about the problems with the pulling of the repo... I will be making some more updates to it very soon so hopefully that can be figured out.

Hello Killerbyte,

i've tried to install the pool on a windows machine.  Sadly i didn't succeed.

When compiling the memorycoin_momentum files, I got an error message:

openssl/sha.h not found.

Ok, I think I have to install openssl for python (or perhaps mingw),
but I don't know, how to do it.

Perhaps you, or someone else here can help me?

Sincerly

Hurlie

Great work KillerByte.
I am going to be testing this tomorrow when I can switch my miner over.  Right now I am fighting with a sha-256 miner.

Hi KB, is it possible to have the p2pool software run on multiple threads?
My pool peaks at 100% and I think it could be better if I run another instance on a different port.

The p2pool scanner doesn't work on ports other than 8080 you say?

Nope, cannot run multiple threads.

Fortunately, the pool software does automatically increase the mining difficulty so your server should only receive shares at an average of 1 share per second. You have probably already reached that point, so the pool should not take more processing power than it already is.

The pool scanner only supports port 8080 because there is no way for it to find out if your pool is on a different port (at least with the current APIs. That can definitely be added).

Let me look into that...

Looking at each mmc p2pool it seems there are differences on last blocks id:
between
http://www.mmc-square.com:8080/static/  423974
and the rest of the pool 423891

compare this to http://p2pool.jir.dk/dogecoin/ dogecoin p2pool
It probably should be all the same. Regardless the local rate.

It also seems to be out of sync between the last blocks and the transaction on my wallet.

Hi Toonces,

Tomorrow is P2Pool update day. Thanks for bringing me in the loop of these problems.

The reason for the out of sync issues may be server load being to high; it takes quite a bit of CPU power to verify the shares coming in.

I will be increasing the default pool share sampling difficulty to fix this. I will also have website GUI improvements again (among all else...), and I will take a look at the sync issues. It appears that mmc-square has developed itself to be on a different chain from the rest of the network... very interesting.

Check on both my pool it only take about 15-20% cpu for both p2pool and memorycoind
The out of sync is across all p2pool.

It is wired as you just changed one line of code.

Another question, could you recommend a typical hardware configuration like CPU/RAM and EC2 instance types to be a stable p2pool node? Thanks in advance.

who said i was done? THe one line of code I changed will speed up the pools signiffigantly.
If you are getting that value error, for right now, clear your share chain. That seems to fix the problem. If it happens again, let me know.

I have more changes planned for tonight, mainly for the website.

No offence.. I was just wondering why the error appears.

Do you think it is good to set a payout buffer/threshold? A lot of miners complains when they make large transactions and it is indeed a pain of ass.

Thanks for the great work and I am looking forward to the new release :D

The way P2Pool works, whenever a block is found, the coinbase transaction contains the payout information built in. This means that payouts are instant and nobody has to be responsible for someone else's money. There is no way to set a payout threshold, however, because of this.

You are correct that I do need to work a little faster, and I respond abruptly to criticism sometimes :). I am not offended, but I was letting you know that there will be more to come as soon as I can get it finalized.

Updated to 13.4-56 it seems that now all version 56 back in sync.
Hopefully someone who have that 1000+ HPM come back to mmc-square pool :)

btw I used "git pull --recurse-submodules"  to update

yes!

We have a web interface cleaning update.

Code: [Select]
git pull
git submodule update

That should work if I am not mistaken.

Enjoy!

YAM does not support the getwork protocol when the stratum+tcp protocol is available.

Getwork:// switched to stratum+tcp:// fixed this problem.

Maybe YAM should do a check if stratum+tcp:// is possible on the pool even if you use getwork:// protocol?

It seems that the p2pool payout sheet doesn't display payouts below a certain threshold.

The main mmc-square server is not synchronizing with the other p2pools.
Please indicate all the necessary ports used for communication.
All other pools are syncing. (Must be my firewall?)

Try adding more nodes to help synchronize the network. What does your memorycoin daemon "getinfo" command output?

is your code updated? Seems like you're updating backwards. Check the debug log as well.

Is this for.. Memorycoin Daemon node compilation? Make a new thread, this p2pool thread is getting congested..

There are several issues pertaining to using conrad's Precompiled Linux binaries with p2pool.
It crashes the memorycoind daemon.
I'm reporting problems with precompiled versions compatibility with p2pool.

Self-Compiled Memorycoin Binaries work perfectly fine.

Some debug information to pinpoint where p2pool stalls when it solves a grant block.
The p2pool script uses GetBlockTemplate to grab the block information:
P2pool => Memorycoin EXE
The master node accepts the block, but it then verifies the payouts and refuses to accept the block because it does not contain the election winners.

I believe the issue has to due with the structure of the grant block. Since I am not an expert on how grant blocks differ from regular blocks, I can only surmise that p2pool is rejecting the grant block because it contains unexpected data. I believe that p2pool requires a code change with something like an if-else type statement for regular versus grant blocks so that p2pool is using the right structure to validate the received blocks.

I pinpointed the problem -
When a grant block is submitted, Memorycoin checks for the election payouts and rejects the share. The P2pool script needs to check if it's a grant block, communicate with the node, send the payouts to the correct elected addresses, then submit the block.

Sad, but I was unsuccessful in p2poool patching :(
So, maybe we could change mmc wallet code to completely disable grant reward system, and eliminate "grant block" problem? What do you think?

We need to revive our limited availability memorycoin! I'm setting up a node and waiting to resync (6 peers at the moment) with great slowness. Then I'll leave it online to help sync other wallets.
Why no more exchanges? Why all the interest is lost here? That was a great coin! Good to mine without asics and limited in availability... I liked it.
Let's resume the work! :)

You're right, with the new uprise in cryptocurrencies, MMC is now a valuable coin. The current block is about 13 days ago and with our inflation rate, adoption won't hurt anyone new too badly. I can update the wallet posts with new node IP addresses and an archive of the current blockchain to speed up the block update process for newcomers.

Unfortunately I can't offer a node, but I currently have a spare CPU core that's itching to be put to good use. Keep us all updated on developments!

Hello!
As I already mentioned, I have a working pool for MMC. All we need to do - is eliminate a "grant block" problem. I think, you can patch the MMC source code to solve this.
The idea of "grant blocks" is dead for sure now. We should remove it and move on to get listed on exchanges. Without working pool and exchange this coin will be dead.

I think we should do whatever it needs to revive the coin. IP addresses for sure (it was not so easy to sync my wallet), but a trustable website with a downloadable wallet would help very much too.
Then we should fight to be relisted in exchanges, again.
I didn't get so much the "grant block" but if it's a problem to continue let's do what is needed...

Wallet can be downloaded from this website - here it is http://www.mmc-forums.com/index.php/board,34.0.html
Pool and exchange listing will come after successful hardfork.
