1st week of July: 28.84 miles in three workouts
« on: July 07, 2014, 12:09:22 AM »
I didn't put up as much distance this week due to 1) some killer allergies at the beginning of the week, 2) a friend crashed with me all week and it felt weird to abandon my guest for hours at a time and 3) Independence day festivities!

Still, I managed to run three almost-10-mile workouts:

First: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/368155431/15407924: Nothing special here, just running home from work.

Second: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/368155421/15407924: This one was in the exclusive Beaver Creek community in Colorado. As I understand it, you can't even drive into Beaver Creek unless you have a hotel room booked in town. Gotta keep out the riff-raff, apparently. Except for me! I just ran right past the security shack and nobody seemed to care. Anyway, I ended up at the top of some ski run, perusing the Vail valley in an exercise-induced euphoria. Delightful run.

Third: http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/368800751/15407924: I'm particularly proud of this one. I had just come back from hiking in the mountains (5-6 miles including 3000 ft of elevation gain) on a very hot day (95F, 35C, and searingly bright sun), and decided that I hadn't done enough mileage for the week, so I hyper-hydrated, soaked my shirt and my hair with water, and went back out. By mile 4 I knew I had something special, and by mile 7 I was feeling competitive. I just kept going faster! When it was all said and done, I had run 10 miles in an hour and 26 minutes, an average of 8:38 minutes/mile. I think it's the fastest 10-miler of this training cycle, and Endomondo tells me it's also my fastest 10 km (the last 10k was 51:18; not a good race time, but recall this is immediately following 6k) and the most distance I've done in an hour (my last hour was 11.55 km).

So, not a ton of distance, but very satisfying progress.
